October 1 - October 5


MONDAY/TUESDAY: Journal warm-up. Go over Kelley prompt annotations, outline process. Turn in outlines. Tone definition, tone group exercises.

Due: Please write a full, original outline on a separate piece of paper for the Kelley prompt. Short phrases are fine.  Use the rhetorical analysis outline format and fill in your own responses to each section. Bring this paper for next class; we will go over it in class, then we'll turn these in.

Homework: Please read Chapter 13 of Grapes, p. 167-187.

WEDNESDAY: Journal warm-up. Current event day - read and annotate two opposing viewpoints. Discuss and debate, vote. Outline the majority opinion in a synthesis/ACT-style outline response based on the discussion.

Homework: (Same as Monday.)

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Journal warm-up. Quiz covering Tone Vocabulary list. Multiple choice practice. Read Grapes, pages 187 until the end of Chapter 13.

DuePlease read Chapter 13 of Grapes, p. 167-187.

Homework: Please read the rest of Chapter 13 and Chapter 14 for next class. As you read Chapter 14, look for rhetorical devices/strategies that Steinbeck is using to make his overall argument. Be ready to share 2-3 of them.
