October 8 - 12

This is the week of the PSAT! We will have some fun (okay, teacher version of fun!) on Wednesday after the exam with an interactive vocabulary game instead of Current Event Day.

MONDAY/TUESDAY: Journal warm-up. Tone/rhetorical questions notes. Go over Grapes, Chapter 14. Receive outlines back. Time in class to type rough drafts in sentences for a full (very rough) essay.

DuePlease read the rest of Grapes, Chapter 13 and Chapter 14 for next class. As you read Chapter 14, look for rhetorical devices/strategies that Steinbeck is using to make his overall argument. Be ready to share 2-3 of them.

Homework: Please continue working on the full, rough draft of the essay response to the Kelley prompt. Make sure you can access it electronically for Thursday/Friday.

Study for the quiz on Thursday/Friday covering Vocab List #5, grammar, and Grapes reading. 

WEDNESDAY: (NO LATE START - PSAT at school at 7:50 a.m.) Journal warm-up. Vocab story rounds.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Journal warm-up. Quiz covering Vocab List #5, grammar, and Grapes reading. Notes: types of thesis statements. Instructions for adding this Turnitin.com English 3 class to your Turnitin.com  account. Twenty-five to thirty minutes to type rough drafts in class, with individual help if needed.


Due: a rough draft in progress that you can access electronically. Upload what you have at the end of the period to Turnitin.com, minimum 2 full, rough paragraphs.

Homework: Please read Grapes, Chapter 16. page 222-247.
