February 10 - 14

This week, we`ll continue with the Argument Unit and The Great Gatsby. Here`s what`s on the agenda:

MONDAY/TUESDAY: Journal warm-up. Finish outline of College Prompt in class and turn it in. Begin reading and acting out Chapter 7, (a very dramatic chapter), in class.

Due: Please read Chapter 6 of The Great Gatsby.

Please bring the outline we worked on in class with you. You`ll turn this in during class today.

Homework: Please finish reading Chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby.

Please have journals ready to turn in on Thursday/Friday.  

Study for Vocab/grammar/reading quiz on Thursday/Friday.

WEDNESDAY: Journal warm-up. Current event day - read and annotate two opposing viewpoints. Discuss and debate, vote. Outline the majority opinion in a synthesis/ACT-style outline response based on the discussion. 

Due: n/a

Homework: Same as Monday.
 
THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Journal warm-up. Quiz covering Vocabulary #13, grammar, and reading.  Valentine`s Day celebration, English-style for 6th period. (Periods 1 and 2 were very badly behaved when a substitute was in class, and the Valentine's Day celebration was cancelled for them.) Notes: fallacies, learn first 3, group exercise with fallacies, (except for 2nd period).

Due: Read Chapter 7 of Gatsby.

Journals in bin at the end of the class period.

Homework: Please finish reading Chapter 8 of Gatsby.

2nd period only - please click on the Fallacies PowerPoint at the right-hand sidebar and read and study the first 3. You'll need to know them for next class.
